X-mas special
Newsletter of the Global Peter Drucker Forum
Dear Friends and Colleagues

You may have caught the enormous Internet buzz earlier this year surrounding the video "Kony 2012 - Invisible Children" which pointed to the inhumane practice of forcing young people in Northern Uganda to become child soldiers. The movie showed this evil perpetrated by Joseph Kony, a rebel warlord from the region. You might also ask: What is the connection between all of this and the Drucker Society?

The answer: One of the winners of our Drucker Challenge essay contest, Christopher Maclay, is deeply involved in trying to reverse this tragic state of affairs-however, not through any futile attempt to arrest Kony, as suggested by the Invisible Children campaign. Rather, Chris works for the Grassroots Reconciliation Group, which aims to reintegrate former child soldiers into their communities and give them a more hopeful future.

All of this, of course, is totally in line with Peter Drucker's thinking. "The non-profit institutions are human change agents," he wrote. "Their 'product' is a cured patient, a child that learns, a young man or woman grown into a self-respecting adult; a changed human life altogether."

I invite you to learn more about the great work being done by GRG by watching this video and reading Chris's Drucker Forum blog post.

As we reflect on the meaning of Christmas and the holiday season, we should remind ourselves to answer the question that one of Peter Drucker's teachers in Vienna asked him when he was a boy-and that helped shape his life: "What do you want to be remembered for?" And as we move into action, we should then remember the question that Deepa Prahalad posed, quoting her late father C.K. Prahalad, in the final vision talk at the 2012 Drucker Forum: "Who would be better off because of this work?"

If all of us committed ourselves to asking these two things on a regular basis, how much brighter would our world be?

On behalf of the entire Peter Drucker Society Europe team I wish you a Merry Christmas, happy holidays and a good and prosperous New Year.

Best regards,
Richard Straub, President Peter Drucker Society Europe
